Roles in MCG

You may be curious as to how your role with MCG will develop over time. Here is the path you might take.

1. Member

Any Middlebury student may join MCG as a Member. This does not require submitting an application – any student, including yourself, may attend MCG programming like meetings, speaker series, career mentoring sessions, and social activities whenever they please.

If you wish to participate in MCG’s projects—which consist of 8-person teams who solve problems for a company each semester—then you must apply to be a Consultant.

2. Consultant – Apply Here

Any Middlebury student may apply to become a Consultant. This does require submitting an application. Each semester, Consultants are matched with a company—like a town business or an alumni startup—and spend ten weeks solving the client’s problems alongside seven of their peers.

Tasks may include financial modeling, data analysis, competitor research, market sizing, branding strategy, social media, and beyond.

3. Team Leader

Consultants may apply to become a Team Leader, where you will typically co-lead a team of eight students on a semester-long project for your client. You will have full autonomy to direct your team’s output, communicate with your client, and manage your personnel. You’ll receive leadership and team-building training, collaborate with other Team Leaders, and get support and mentorship from senior members whenever you need it.

4. Vice President

Team Leaders may apply to serve as a Vice President. The Vice Presidents oversee the organization’s day-to-day operations and implement internal and external strategic initiatives to further our mission. These administrative roles provide members with an alternative leadership opportunity in the form of internal management of MCG.

5. Co-President

Team Leaders and Vice Presidents with sufficient tenure may run for Co-President. The Co-Presidents shape the direction of the organization and provide mentorship and guidance to MCG’s various leaders. They conceive of the strategic initiatives that the Vice Presidents implement and meet with Team Leaders to review big-picture challenges and deliverables.

People-Centric Problem Solving.

“One thing that I have always enjoyed about MCG is how the whole process of consulting is fundamentally based in working with people. I loved the problem solving and research that each team (and subteam) completes, particularly because we present those findings directly to the client. During our remote semesters, I especially enjoyed how I was able to regularly get in contact with our client via Zoom, email and text. Through regular conversations, I received a better understanding of the job at hand and the work I do suddenly became much more meaningful.”

I joined because I enjoy working on fun, collaborative projects while building connection with the community – and I have done precisely that. Most importantly, I love that MCG is a talented group of people coming from diverse backgrounds who bring new, exciting ideas to the table and are truly committed the work they do.”
